It looks, feels and sounds Italian, but Cinettica cycling kit is based right here in Australia as Pete Maniaty reports, for his review in Bicycling Australia Magazine FEB 2022.
Sometimes you buy something for no other reason than you just like the look of it. Initially, that’s what drew me to this great value kit from Cinettica. I saw it online. Liked it. Bought it. It’s been a month or so since then and, as things turn out, this jersey and bib ensemble have a whole lot more going for them than mere aesthetics.
For me, Cinettica has always been one of those enigmatic kit brands. Yes, I’d heard of them. But I really didn’t know much about them.
I figured they were Italian, but a little digging revealed they’re actually based in Sydney and have been quietly producing kit for around two decades. In their own words, they create classic kit: “for riders who want to ride longer, harder, faster – in comfort – and look better doing it. All without breaking the bank.”
Well, mission accomplished, I say.
With its lightweight construction and minimalist pastel design, Cinettica’s ‘Parallel’ Jersey looks the goods. But more importantly it feels good too. Sizing-wise, I found the fit reasonably relaxed, certainly not as tight and restrictive assome of the race-cut jerseys around at the moment.
Add in high stretch fabrics with excellent breathability and moisture wicking, flat seams and laser cut silicone ‘infinity edge’ armgrippers, and it all made for very comfortable riding.
At a more functional level, there are three good-sized rear pockets– including reflective trim for enhanced visibility – as well as a separate water-resistant zip pocket for valuables. Alas, it was a little too small for my (admittedly oversized) smartphone.
Cinettica may not have the reputation of some of the bigger global brands. But have no doubt. Their Classic Bib Shorts are right up there when it comes to fabric, construction and overall performance. The body contoured design features multiple panels to provide supportive compression everywhere you need it.
I also found the antibacterial silver-infused endurance chamois (produced by Italian chamois giants, Elastic Interface) to be super comfortable, even on longer 100km+ rides. My only slight word of caution is the leg length is a little on the short side, certainly compared to some of the other bibs I’ve worn lately. I’d probably recommend upsizing if you prefer a longer fit.
Just finally, the ‘black on black’ Cinettica branding on the right leg is pleasantly discrete, while the plain black design will pair with any jersey in your collection, making it endlessly versatile.
Comfortable, good looking and very reasonably priced. This is a great all-day kit that’s ideally suited for longer rides this summer. It’s quickly become one of my favourites.
